Leader of a multi-million dollar practice specializing in national security regulatory compliance (e.g., ITAR, EAR, OFAC, CFIUS etc.). Retired U.S. diplomat with extensive China business experience and former federal law enforcement officer and investigator.

Describe your industry experience:

  • Defense
  • Aerospace
  • Semiconductor manufacturing
  • telecommunications
  • Military electronics (e.g., night vision)
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • University- based research, particularly in life sciences

Describe your functional experience:

I lead a niche consulting practice for a Big 4 accounting firm helping companies understand and comply with complex export controls and trade sanctions regulations and related national security requirements including cybersecurity, counter-espionage and counter-intelligence. I help companies respond to geopolitical events, assess compliance processes, remediate gaps and implement policies and procedures.

I developed this practice from the ground up, growing revenue from low six figures to high seven figures within five years while also tripling profitability. I also recruited and trained a team of deep subject matter specialists drawn from industry, government and academia.

My 30+ year public service career included 13 years as a U.S. diplomat in China and more than 25 years as a Special Agent and investigator across seven federal agencies. I bring deep experience in managing China business and security challenges to advise Chinese and multinational companies. I am a thought leader and frequent speaker on proliferation networks and the intersections between trade and national security.

Describe your key business transactional experience:

I specialize in working with companies that have entered into government enforcement actions (e.g., Consent/Settlement Agreements, deferred prosecution agreements, suspended debarments). I help companies meet regulatory requirements and expectations by developing actionable compliance enhancements that produce measurable results. I am skilled in leading corporate investigations and compliance audits required by the U.S. government.

I also help companies address challenges relating to cross-border mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. I advise on navigating requirements imposed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and Foreign Ownership, Control and Influence (FOCI) considerations. I lead multi-year post-integration compliance audits required by National Security Agreements.

What is the most important skill you bring to a corporate board?

I am practical, creative and collaborative in bringing diverse stakeholders together to address novel and unprecedented challenges from regulatory authorities in the U.S. and around the globe.
