The Leadership Foundry

Taking action to increase board gender diversity

Preparing women for the corporate boardroom

That’s how many corporate boards seats in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia are filled by women.

The Leadership Foundry is helping to increase this number.

Founded by Women in Technology (WIT), The Leadership Foundry targets female executives interested in serving on a corporate board. The program prepares you for board service and provides opportunities to make connections and develop relationships that could lead to a board position.

Multiple ways of making a difference

Intensive board training

Our program includes an intensive training session with National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) to prepare you to serve on a corporate board.

Networking opportunities

Make valuable connections through meetings and networking events.

Research and advocacy

We partner with American University to publish an annual count of board gender diversity in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

Be part of the change

If you have a passion to see more female leadership in our area, join us in making our dream of gender-diverse corporate boards a reality.

Volunteer for the Planning Committee

From finite tasks to larger initiatives, there are many volunteer opportunities available on our Planning Committee, which plans and runs The Leadership Foundry.

Hear from our graduates

The Leadership Foundry has prepared more than 130 women to serve on corporate boards

The Leadership Foundry expanded my perspective and enabled me to more clearly understand the role of a Director. The NACD training is outstanding, and the networking opportunities to meet women with the same aspirations, are one of the program’s best benefits.

Jan Gaudaen

Class of 2015

The Leadership Foundry prepared me to ask the right questions when I was approached to serve on a board and to know if the answers would lead to a good fit or to walk away. In the process, I have met some amazing women. The networking is the best part of the program.

The Leadership Foundry gives you the framework of what’s required to serve while providing ongoing networking with women who have a broad and diverse set of backgrounds and work experiences. It’s rare to have the opportunity to build a strong network with such an impressive and high-level group of women.
